About the Department


The Department of Commerce in Jagat Taran Girls’ Degree College was established in 2001 under self-finance with the objective of empowering female students by providing them with high-quality education and analytical abilities, enabling them to envision a better society and bring it to fruition. The department actively engages in a range of academic events, including inter collegiate quiz & essay-writing competitions, inter collegiate sports events and group discussion with the aim of fostering a culture of healthy competition and promoting teamwork among students. The inclusion of lectures delivered by intellectuals and specialists enhances the cognitive processes and facilitates multidimensional thinking. The primary objective of the Faculty of Commerce is to enhance the overall academic standards of both faculty members and students, with the ultimate goal of establishing the Faculty of Commerce as a hub of excellence.

The departmental library offers an extensive assortment of textbooks, reference books, magazines, newspapers, and journals to assist students in staying up-to-date with information and enhancing their knowledge. They are also furnished with a reading room and a book bank service. In addition, they possess the capability to utilize INFLIBNET, DELNET, and NLIST (an online library) to gain access to a wide range of foreign publications and periodicals. The faculty has an excellent computer lab of its own which is fully equipped with the modern computer network based on Wi-Fi and LAN internet connectivity. The computer lab compliments the classroom pedagogy and provides the much-needed facilities to the students for navigating through network and using email, web -surfing, etc

The department also organizes vital Add on/Certificate courses and Personality Development courses for the value addition along with the University’s regular B.Com. course for the value addition in the students’ development. The top achievers in B. Com. I, II, and III are recognized annually during the Annual Function, receiving prestigious accolades such as the Gold Medal and Silver Medal in addition to certificates. The Faculty of Commerce boasts a distinguished alumni network that has achieved notable success in both the public and private sectors.
