About the Department


Department of Political Science offers an undergraduate three years course on Political Science under B.A. Programme. The department has a diverse faculty whose specialization spreads across various fields of Political Science and caters to the largest number of students across discipline. The core emphasis of the course is to familiarizing students with the conceptual as well as applied essence of the subject. The course promotes holistic development of the students through interactive methods of teaching and learning, thereby making them better informed and aware citizens.

Overall, the course offers a set of skills which are excellent preparation for public policy making, policy analysis, legal fields, international relations, diplomacy, political consultancy, public affairs, academics and research. The department prepares students for a wide range of careers, who joins government, non-government organizations and private sectors. A large number of students opt for higher studies in prestigious institutions in India.


Teaching-Learning

Members of faculty use innovative teaching methods including E-learning tools to make learning experiential. This involves the use of debates, discussions, movie/documentary screenings, field visits etc. A series of special lectures, invited talks, workshops, seminars designed around the course to provide extensive knowledge and value addition to the students. The faculty extensively uses e-learning tools like MS teams, Google meet, audio-video lectures, Google classroom etc. to make learning more effective and accessible along with Remedial Classes.  Project making, Academic writing and Paper presentations on contemporary political themes involving original thinking and relevant research are an integral part of learning. Along with the disciplinary knowledge, the course also encourages communication skills, critical thinking, analytical reasoning, research skills, digital literacy, leadership skills and moral and ethical awareness among its students.

Activities and Events:

The department runs two student clubs, that is the Newspaper Reading Club and Electoral Literacy Club. The “Newspaper Reading Club” is an initiative of the Department of Political Science for capacity building among students. Under the club students will encourage to regularly read newspaper and be updated with everyday development in National and International politics to have a deeper understanding and practical application of the subject. They are also encouraged to analyze and present their views and debate on various issues to develop public speaking skills through various newspaper reading club sessions.

The “Electoral Literacy club” is constituted in every session with 25 student volunteers and 2 nodal officers (Teachers) under the guidance of the District Election Office, Prayagraj. The Club organizes various activities (documentary screening, EVM awareness, lectures, rallies) and Voters Registration Camp as an Outreach Activity for students (young voters) and community members to help them to become part of the democratic process.

Department also trains and orients students to become responsible citizen through interactive talks and provides extensive knowledge of the Constitutional provisions and laws to the students through various activities and celebrating National Unity Day, Vigilance Awareness Week, Constitution Day, Human Rights Day, National Voters’ day etc. The department also organizes various competitions to enhance skills and confidence among students. Students of the department are also guided by the department to be associated with the larger vibrant co-curricular and extra - curricular life of the college by participating in NSS, NCC, Women's Cell, Literary Society etc.
