About the Department


The Department of Philosophy was established in the year 1984 with Graduation Programme. Department has an incredibly diverse and specialized faculty. Our curriculum is diverse as we are covering Classical Indian Philosophy, Modern Western Philosophy, Indian and Western traditions of Epistemology & Ethics, Philosophy of Religion, Logic, Socio-Political Philosophy and so on. Being a rational enquiry, we encourage students to focus on original philosophical texts for the clarity of Philosophical Concepts, enriching the understanding and expanding the intellectual horizons.

The curriculum of the Department helps students to develop analytical thinking, innovative questioning, ability to asses information from various angles and rational problem-solving approach. Our vision and mission are not only limited to focus on academic excellence of the students but also to provide Holistic Development with Philosophical Foundation and to instill humane, secular & democratic values respectively. Our objectives are to encourage non-dogmatic rational approach among the students. This subject creates a vast area of opportunities for its students to successfully pursue academics as well as administrative after their graduation.

Our faculties acknowledge the fact that our subject cannot be limited to the books and theories. It is an activity of critical enquiry and comprehensive process of thought. So, along with the conventional method of teaching, we also include various other methods like- Special Lectures, debates, discussions, workshops, project writing, online teaching, tests and periodical assessment of students in various papers and more to impart knowledge for their overall development. We also provide tutorial/remedial classes for further clarity to the students. The Department also offers an Add-on/Certificate course namely ‘A study of Vedic Dharma & Its Development’. The Department has an exclusive library where reference books and secondary texts are available.
